Next Year In Huntsville by Grace L. Sutherland

I am delighted to announce that my first novel, Next Year In Huntsville, has been released and is now available through the Birdcatcher Books website. It has also received its first review, by Megan Meganator on Niume. Here’s part of what she has to say:

“Next Year In Huntsville by Grace L Sutherland is a coming of age story set in the fictional rural town of Huntsville, Australia from 1960 to 2008. The novel reads very much like a fictional memoir. The main character, Sarah Hunt, meets two girls, Melanie and Theresa who share the same birthday and they agree that every year they’ll celebrate their shared birthday’s together in Huntsville, no matter what it takes. The three girls are complete opposite of each other. yet become best friends and family over the course of fifty years. The girls face a series of tragedies and struggles, from a town that is struggling to survive, to fire, deaths, lost pregnancies and abusive husbands. The book takes on both fictitious and historical events and winds them into one unique, powerful story.”

Whilst I’m not sure about calling the book a “coming of age story”, given that it covers the girls’ lives from the age of 12 to 60, I’m thankful for a predominantly positive review.

Because it is too close to Christmas to do a launch at this stage, I am thinking of holding a launch party on 7th March, the birthday that is shared by the three main characters. More about this later when the planning is under way.
